"COUNtess VelVEEta," a lively regular poster on the newsgroup alt.sex.bondage for part of 1995 and 1996, is a submissive who posted some interesting and controversial messages to that news group about various aspects of submission. Never one to mince words, never one to hesitate to speak her mind out of cowardice or concern with what others may think of her, CV's messages struck out at those aspects of the S&M Scene which are nonsensical and those individuals within the Scene who, for various reasons, lie and deceive others about the nature of power exchange. Even her name, COUNtess VelVEEta, is a spoof on those self-aggrandizing Scene personalities who assign to themselves the titles and airs of royalty--and who expect others to treat them with deference and respect as a result.Naturally, CV's frank, no-nonsense writing caused her to accrue many enemies, especially among those with a strong stake in remaining self-deluded or in deluding others. Scores of others felt insecure, as her clear and logical critiques often punched holes in their most cherished fantasies about dominance and submission, showing them to be the ridiculous and actually harmful ideas that they are. Yet, like Rosie, another submissive writer featured on our site, her messages also spoke glowingly of the joys and deep satisfaction of the submissive lucky enough to be in an actual power exchange. For those who prefer reality in their S&M, her bittersweet messages served as both a warning of what to avoid and an inspiring view of what is possible. With her permission, we proudly reproduce some of her best messages here. |
